Dr. Mary Anne Trasciatti Analyzes President Obama's Inaugural Address

Dr. Mary Anne Trasciatti, an associate Professor of Speech Communication, Rhetoric, and Performance at Hofstra University, gave an innovative analysis of President Obama's Inaugural Address at our first meeting of 2009 held on Wednesday, Februrary 11, 2009 at the Martin Luther King Center in Rockville Centre.

Dr. Trasciatti educated the group on the history and historical purpose of  the inaugural address and analyzed President Obama's address in this context.  Her talk was entitled "Obama's Inaugural:  A New Beginning?"   Dr. Trasciatti did not believe that Obama's Inaugural rated as highly as some of his other speeches and she stated that the language of the address did not seem to indicate that he would be an overly progressive president.  Dr. Trasciatti's opinions lead to a very lively discussion since the audience overwhelmingly supported the new President and remained convinced that with continued grassroots support and advocacy, President Obama would bring the change that the country needs.
